(Click to listen)
Scripture: Genesis 3:1-4:25

Description: All of us have given in to temptation to do wrong which is sin. Though temptation is not sin it is that critical point of decision which determines if one successfully resists or gives in to temptation. The Fall passage in Genesis 3 helps us get a understanding how Satan attacks and the reality of our weakness in fending off those attacks. God has a redemption plan for recovery for when we do sin. He also is there to offer power and strength to enable us to resist and win those temptation battles. This message highlights life principles that can be used to win temptation attacks.
1. The cunning tactics of Satan
Satan seeks to undermine God’s character
Genesis 3:1 He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
Satan minimizes repercussions of disobedience and exaggerates the benefits of disobedience
Genesis 3:4-5 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,
2. The ease of which we give in to temptation
Our flesh loves to disobey rather than obey
Genesis 4:6-7 6 The LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.”
We try to fight against temptation in our own strength
Genesis 3:7 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.
Genesis 3:21 21 And the LORD God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.
3. The failure of man to respect God’s authority
What God commands is for our own good.
Genesis 3:24 24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.
We are in a battle and we need God’s help.
Ephesians 6:13-18 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
